SUPPORT AND BARRIERS TO PHYSICAL AND SPORTING PRACTICES BY THE DEAF: AN APPROACH IN THE CITY OF DIVINÓPOLIS-MG

The aim of this study was to investigate the barriers and supports for the deaf public in the city of Divinópolis to access physical and sports practices. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven volunteers, and content analysis was conducted. 10 categories were identified: support from parents and school; sport in childhood; like sport; interaction between deaf and hearing people; benefits of physical-sports practice; trained and/or committed professionals; prejudice; accessibility and inclusion; embarrassment; sports practice without professional supervision. The results show that Inclusion actions; Accessibility; Interaction between deaf and hearing people; and the training/commitment of Physical Education professionals must be worked on.
