In this essay we discussed about the old age and its process of institutionalization analyzing the construction of the social identity of the elderly and their segregation in a society educated for work and by consumption. When they find themselves deprived of their function in a society based on capital, the elderly also lose the possibilities of re-signifying their own life. In this sense, we understand that it is fundamental to problematize the questions in the academic field of Physical Education considering that it concerns to a social or a pedagogical practice, that could promote meetings with the purpose of shared actions, forming bondings and, above all, producing health and life.
