Abstract

This article aims to present an analysis of the discursive production about the LGBT group (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, travesties and transgenders) in the local print media, taking for analysis print news published in O Popular newspaper, during the period covered from 1993 to 2001. The research was based on theoretical and methodological Social Constructionism, feminist and gender theories and gay/lesbians and queer studies. During this period, 250 news were identified indicating that, if in one hand, the LGBT subject has been gaining space, on the other, the discursive production about the LGBT appears to be quite discrepant. There is a predominance of news about “gay” men and a silence around others “identities”, which is the case of lesbians, travesties, transsexuals and transgenders identities, denoting that some identities remain more “abjects” than others.
