Abstract

Brazil and Mexico seek to eradicate violence against women. Although these countries are not counted among those experiencing a higher incidence of femicide cases, their governments have passed two laws that are pioneering in many ways to prevent and eliminate this  social malaise. However, legislative loop holes within these countries' respective judicial systems, as well as the prevalence of certain social attitudes and  so-called values sustain violence against women; thus these said laws are rendered ineffective in protecting and assisting many women who suffer from all forms of pain and abuse. We therefore propose a series of educational and extensive treatment of the media  measures that are necessary to ensure that laws achieve their objective to prevent and eradicate violence against women, as well as punish the culprits of these misdeeds.
