Abstract

This article aims to understand the implications of the relationship between sources and journalists in an ethno-constructionist perspective - the view regarding news as a result of the interaction between various social agents, in a process of constant negotiation. The interdependent relationship between sources and journalists implicates in a sort of marriage of convenience in which both cooperate to promote their interests. It is an analysis of the objectives of those involved in the news process in order to clarify the terms of such negotiation. It also alerts to the dangers of proximity between journalists and their routine channels, particularly official sources.
