Abstract

In this ar cle, the underlying hypothesis is that, looking beyond masscommunica on, the processes which relate to communica on themesand the produc on of subjec vity nowadays go through more andmore intensive use of new communica on technology. The hypothesisseeks to sustain itself through the observa on of three socio-economicand cultural phenomena directly linked to the forma on of the eldof contemporary communica on. irst: the passage of mass communicaon towards segmented communica on. econd: the passage fromstudying e ects to the emergence and the use of new network andacentric digital communica on technology. Third: the modula on ofmass communica on through contemporary media prac ce. nderthese condi ons, what comes into play in these incessant processes ofsubjec va on is the instability of the “in common” in communica onin the light of the intensive produc on of the policy of di erence.
