Abstract

The current experiment evaluated the weight daily gain, dry matter intake and feed conversion rate of dairy crossbred heifers that received “Quillaja Saporinaria Molina” extract, which main effect is to inhibit the protozoa population and reduce the concentration and/or release of amonia in the rumen. The diets in this trial were constituted by sugar cane ad libitum and concentrate on the basis at 0,7% inclusion in relation of the live body weight. The supply of 1.5 or 3 g of the extract did not alter the dry matter intake (6.41 kg/heifer or 2.1% live body weight), the weight daily gain (0.789 kg/day) and the feed conversion rate (8.12:1). Saponin did not change the diet intake as well as did not improve the performance of dairy crossbred heifers in feedlot.
