About the Journal
Journal history
The Brazilian Animal Science journal (CAB, Ciência Animal Brasileira), with e-ISSN 1809-6891, originated from the division of the Annals of the Agronomy and Veterinary Schools of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), which was created in 1971. It was established in 2000 as a significant endeavor of the current UFG School of Veterinary and Animal Science, with the aim of disseminating scientific knowledge in the fields of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, and related areas.
In 2006, the journal became fully available on the UFG Journal Portal, where it started utilizing the Open Journal Systems (OJS) electronic publishing system, a tool for managing and publishing electronic journals. The printed version (p-ISSN 1518-2797) has not been used since 2010, transitioning all articles to electronic processing. This change resulted in reduced publication costs, enhanced interaction with authors and reviewers, and faster procedures. The electronic version, accessible at https://www.revistas.ufg.br/vet, contains all published issues and volumes, freely available to the public.
From 2000 to 2019, Prof. José Henrique Stringhini (UFG) served as the journal's Editor-in-Chief. In the period from 2020 to 2021, Prof. João Restle (Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and UFG) shared the role with Prof. Luiz Augusto Batista Brito (UFG). Since 2022, the journal has had two Editors-in-Chief, Prof. Luiz Augusto B. Brito (UFG) and Prof. Rondineli Pavezzi Barbero from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ).
The journal's Editorial Board consists of members from national and international institutions. Our continuous aim is to improve the inclusivity of the journal as an international publication platform and raise the technical-scientific quality of our publications. The editorial team of this journal has always strived to seek inclusion in new indexes across different databases. Notably, since 2013, all our articles have been available in free access through SciELO.
To increase the internationalization and visibility of our published articles, we began publishing exclusively in English in 2017. From 2019 onward, CAB adopted a bilingual approach, publishing scientific articles in both English and Portuguese. The decision to maintain publication in both languages, despite the predominance of English in scientific literature, stems from the fact that the majority of our readership does not belong to the scientific community. Consequently, prioritizing social impact and the immediate applicability of our articles, publication in Portuguese remains one of our key objectives.
In 2020, the journal underwent a visual identity renewal, accompanied by the creation of a new brand. The article layout was also modified to enhance readers' reading experience and interaction with CAB.
* brand developed by visual programmer Cátia Ana Baldoíno da Silva, from the editorial core of the Faculty of Visual Arts at UFG.
