Abstract

Yeast have been used in feeds and foods. A total of 320 Hysex brown layers (26 to 42 weeks of age) were fed diets containing increasing (0, 1, 2 and 3%) levels of an yeast extract. The animals were allocated in cages (4 birds per cage), in a total of 80 cages (replicates) per treatment. Birds were subjected to a completely randomized experimental design. Feed and water were supplied ad libitum. Feed intake, egg production, feed conversion (intake/dz eggs), body weight, egg weight, specific gravity, Haugh units and shell thickness were not influenced by the dietary treatments. These results indicate that yeast extract does not influence performance and external and internal quality of eggs.
