Abstract

Abomasum impaction is a mechanical or functional obstruction that prevent the standard flow of the food in the alimentary tract of cattle. It’s caused by the ingestion of dry and poor quality forage and low ingestion of water. Is commonly observed in late pregnant cows. This research reports five cases of abomasum impaction in cattle of different breeds. The problem occurred in one bull and four cows, three of them were old animals and the other was a heifer. The majority of the cases suggested vagus indigestion and rectal examination was an important complementary diagnostic aid, although abomasum was out of reach in all the cases.
