Abstract

This experiment aimed to evaluate internal and eggshell quality collected from hens of different lines and ages. A total of 48 white eggs obtained in a commercial farm from four genetic lines (Babcock B300, Hy Line W36, Lohmann white e Hisex) in three different ages (29.60 and 69 weeks) were allotted in a completely randomized design in a 4x3 factorial arrangement. Egg weight, percentage of yolk, albume and eggshell, albume height, specifc gravity and Haugh unit were measured and means were compared by Tukey test. Babcock B300’ eggs showed higher Haugh unit (97.23) and albume height (6.68 mm) values as compared to Hisex (84.46 and 8.19 mm, respectively). The egg yolk percentage from Hy line W36 hens (29.63%) at 69 weeks of age were greater (p<0,05) than Babcock B300 (26.28%), Hisex (26.43%) and Lohmann White (26.58%). This study indicates that egg weight increased and Haugh unit and albume height reduced in older hens for all lines. The eggshell quality was reduced in aged hens. KEY WORDS: Age, eggs, genetic lines, hens, internal quality.
