The National Environmental Education Policy (PNEA) (Law 9795/99) brings as one of its basic principles Environmental Education through a pluralism of pedagogical ideas in the perspective of inter, and transdisciplinary. In this sense, we developed a research on the teaching and practice of Environmental Education, based on a study at the Federal Institute of Tocantins (IFTO) in the city of Porto Nacional - TO, presenting the reflections and challenges for insertion of Environmental Education in courses. The main objective of the research was to analyze the role of environmental management in higher education institutions from the IFTO-Campus Porto Nacional, Tocantins. And as specific objectives: To understand the policies of Environmental Education for higher education; to verify the guidelines used by the IFTO-Campus Porto Nacional regarding Environmental Education in higher education and to evaluate the Environmental Education strategies used by management to do environmental in the higher courses. The research used a bibliographic review allied to a field research, with a qualitative approach with a descriptive and exploratory approach and the application of interviews with the managers. The recognition of the role of management in the development and consolidation of EE in HEI reinforces the need to create and develop strategies that include the entire academic community, in order to train professionals who are aware of the care that must be taken with the environment. lack of environmental and social ethics has brought several impacts in the social and ecological context.
