Libraries, through their collections, make knowledge available that, when used by users, are capable of promoting
personal and social development. Therefore, based on the Brazilian reality, which has consequences of racial and
sexist exclusion, and also a history of late guarantee of the right to education for Afro-descendants and women,
the article aimed to identify the presence and absence of authors of Afro-Brazilian literature. in the collections of
the libraries of the Instituto Federal de Goiás. As a methodological procedure, the research is characterized as
descriptive. For this purpose, the online catalog of the Integrated System of Libraries of the IFG was used to search
for the works of black and Brazilian authors listed in the Portal of Afro-Brazilian Literature, the literafro, available
on the internet. After analyzing the data, it was possible to identify that only 7% of the researched works are
available in the IFG libraries, highlighting the low representation of female and black authorship in the collections.
Therefore, it is necessary to reflect on the place of exclusion and silencing that black women occupy, and also on
their absences in library collections.
