This study aimed to create a favorable environment for the deaf student, with the development of appropriate classes, providing theoretical and practical learning from adequate visual material. More specifically, in this study, we developed fifteen video-theaters to express some metaphors of the Portuguese language that are common in our daily lives. It is noteworthy that the deaf students recognize the world through their visual experiences, therefore their way of understanding and apprehending academic content predominantly comes from their visual field. In this way, we developed this proposal in a video-theater format, with the aim of bringing the deaf student knowledge about the use of the figure of speech, a metaphor of the Portuguese language, where we present two versions in relation to the context of the sentence, one in its meaning literal and the other in the metaphorical sense. Our reflections point out that, like hearing people, deaf people can understand and use figures of speech in their daily lives, but, for this to happen, they must have semantic knowledge of the Portuguese language, in addition to the visual teaching methodology favoring techniques and strategies and contribute to understanding by the deaf.
