This article aims to discuss seniority from the perspective of the Yorùbá philosopher Oyèrónkẹ́ Oyěwùmí, who introduces us to the dynamics of teaching and learning the philosophy of seniority. The main category of the Yorùbá - pre-colonial - organization of Ọ̀yọ́, whose social classification of people is based on fluid, situational and relative chronological ages, when expressed in relation to someone who is both older and younger than other people in the community. Seniority refers to a fluid, relational and relative position, and not necessarily to chronological age, which lives not only in the body, but in the collective history of beings. In this sense, this article is an oxunic dive into understanding how seniority shapes philosophical (inter)actions without stipulating gender or reflecting a binary and hierarchical dichotomy between beings marked by a sexed body.
