Abstract

This article aims to present the analysis of an essay competition held within the scope of the We propose! project (PNP!, in portuguese) in the Federal District. It was carried out in the context of Geography classes, through the elaboration of proposals aimed at solving everyday problems, in light of a practical perspective of understanding urban dynamics, and a way of studying the city. The methodology adopted for its development is grounded in a qualitative approach, supported by bibliographic research drawing on scholars who investigate themes related to Geography Education and the aforementioned. Project, as well as documentary analysis of students' written compositions In this way, the approach adopted to Geography Teaching was initially guided by the purpose of training for citizenship, the basis of support for the proposal relating to the We propose! project, briefly presented on the occasion, as an action/activity that contributes to the systematization of geographic knowledge. The theme chosen by the organizers for the aforementioned competition was “The participation of young citizens in search of solutions to their community’s problems”. In the methodological approach, the analysis was based on seven texts selected by the school unit. Thus, when analyzing the pedagogical process, it was possible to realize that this type of activity contributes to the construction of critical, reflective and autonomous subjects, by enabling the social participation of students in the search for building knowledge and solving local problems in their community.
