THE GEOGRAPHICAL EDUCATION IN THE PRIMARY SCHOOL OF PIAUÍ (1927-1950)

It is discussed in the present text a study about the geographical education in the primary school of Piauí, whose aim consisted in comprehend the historical path of this school subject in the referred teaching level between the years of 1927-1950. The study has foundation in the propositions of André Chervel (1990) in connection with Ivor Goodson (1990) with the School Subjects History approach as a historiographic field. It was reflected about some aspects related to the teaching purpose of Geography in the Primary School of Piauí according to the educational legislation and the Primary Teaching Program adopted in the period, highlighting the curriculum and the pedagogical models prescribed through these legal instruments. The results demonstrated that, despite the educational legislation indicating the formation of the patriotic and nationalist spirit in the geographical education of the little students from Piauí and the prescription of the intuitive method considered modern for the time, it was maintained a traditional teaching approach, emphasizing the enumeration and the description of natural wealth, the phenomena locations and the memorization of the content studied.
