This article is derivative from research, teaching and extension activities and aims to present elements for reflection that can lead to identify the foundations and principles for geography education of young and adult workers from the perspective of popular education. To this end, it initially addresses the specificities of individuals undertaking Youth and Adult Education (Educação de Jovens e Adultos – EJA) identifying some concerns that characterize the current scenario of public policies focused on this modality of basic education. Thereafter, we start with a set of reflections involving the pedagogical practices in geography, always taking as a reference the EJA as the right of young and adult workers to a free and secular Public Education. In the end, the perspective of popular education is considered in its dialogue with school knowledge of geography. As a result of the analyzes undertaken in the text, it is intended to subsidize reflections necessary for the realization of a geographic education committed to workers who study and that, from a counter-hegemonic point of view, can contribute to the development of pedagogical projects whose principles are guided by contextualized, emancipating and problematizing education.
