On the centenary of Kafka’s death: an approach to his literary world

This paper sets out to explore the narrative structure of Kafka’s writings to understand his inscrutable literary world. A close study of Letter to my Father establishes a correspondence between the feelings of Kafka the Child, as described in the letter, and the writer’s fictional worlds, mediated by metaphorical references. Along these lines, two worlds can be identified and examined which structure Kafka’s literary universe: an ad hoc world, where the hero finds himself a stranger who lives under rules he cannot rationalise, and the world of authority, that of fathers and officials’.
