Abstract

Based on Sociolinguistica Variacionista, this work studies the rising of the
vowel /E/ pretonic in the enlightened speech of Fortaleza-CE The objective
of this work is to investigate the performance of linguistic and social factors
on the phenomenon. For this, we selected a speech sample composed of 34
informants from the PORCUFORT database. The selected informants were
stratified by sex, age group and type of survey. In all, we collected 1,821 data that were submitted to the analysis of the Goldvarb X program. The results revealed that the palatal antecedent phonological context and the age range of the elderly favor the rising of the vowel / E / pretonic.
