This study examines how phonetic/phonological inaccuracies may impact on orthographic errors, especially on those related to plosive segments. Aiming this, spoken and written data of 11 children were collected. The subjects were second grade students of a public school located in Pelotas (Brazil). The results show a higher frequency of substitutions between unvoiced and voiced plosives in consonantal clusters. Traditional impressionistic phonetic transcription did not show related errors in the speech, despite them being expected to appear during the first language acquisition period. However, acoustic analyses showed that phonetic/phonological improvement may influence the writing of plosive segments.
