Abstract

In this article, we have presented discussions and reflections on the definition of an experimental orthography for the Chiquitano language in Brazil. These discussions had as guidelines the mediation between the technical criteria for uniqueness,  notation  of  sounds,  ease  of  learning and  also  contextual issues such  as  the  teaching  of  a  second  language  and  linguistic  similarities  with the  varieties  of  the  Chiquitano  language  in  Bolivia.  They  have  shown,  in
particular, how these activities encouraged and served as basis for actions for the appreciation and strengthening of the Chiquitano language.

Aurea Cavalcante Santana, Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso (UFMT), Cuiabá, MT

Áurea Cavalcante Santana é linguista, possui Graduação em Letras pela Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, Mestrado e Doutorado em Letras e Lingüística pela Universidade Federal de Goiás. É professora da Fundação Nacional do Índio - Funai – Centro Cultural Ikuiapá em Cuiabá, MT. Possui experiência na área de Letras, com ênfase em diversidade linguística, línguas indígenas e formação de professores. Desenvolve, desde 2003, pesquisa sobre a Língua Chiquitano no Brasil, com publicações de artigos e livro.
