In this article, we have presented discussions and reflections on the definition of an experimental orthography for the Chiquitano language in Brazil. These discussions had as guidelines the mediation between the technical criteria for uniqueness, notation of sounds, ease of learning and also contextual issues such as the teaching of a second language and linguistic similarities with the varieties of the Chiquitano language in Bolivia. They have shown, inparticular, how these activities encouraged and served as basis for actions for the appreciation and strengthening of the Chiquitano language.
