Abstract

This paper investigates Brazilian public and institutional policies to combat international drug trafficking, analyzing how organized crime is territorialized in the Amazon. The research seeks to understand the consequences of this activity, incorporating concepts such as narcoecology, narcoagribusiness and narcomilitias, as well as the socio-environmental impacts on traditional communities, especially indigenous and quilombola communities. To do this, a shift from Critical Theory to Political Ecology is adopted as a theoretical lens to examine the interactions between socio-environmental dynamics. The methodology is qualitative, with a literature review and documentary analysis of institutional sources and official websites of the Federal Government and Ministry of Defense. The findings show that drug trafficking in the Amazon degrades the environment, affects communities and reinforces an oppressive logic through its territorialization, revealing the insufficiency of repressive policies in the face of the power dynamics involved.
