Art and cultural education
some considerations about the role of university extension
DOI:

The University Extension has a fundamental role in
the management and promotion of Culture and Art actions.
If we consider the decline of the ludic spirit and the advance
of technicist and utilitarian rationalism in the field of
Education, a process that started in Brazil in the mid-1960s,
the University Extension appears as the last refuge of a
process called “cultural education” or Bildung (BERMAN,
2002; SUAREZ, 2005) and will be able to guarantee, through
the articulation between Art and Culture, a broader, more
active, more dialogic education with a strong aesthetic
character. This article, carried out through bibliographical
research and consultation of official platforms (institutional
websites and portals), aims to relate some brief historical
and philosophical considerations about this problematic
picture and claim the place of Culture and Art in the
institutional debate of university management and – more
properly – in the academic education of students.
