This project aimed to enable the contact of
undergraduate students and health professionals with the
local community to identify and intervene in the possible
contributing factors for the presence of childhood obesity
and frequency of deleterious oral habits related to
malocclusions. The target audience were children aged 4 to
8 years, from the community outside the Federal University
of Goiás. Discussions, activities and lectures on nutritional
and oral hygiene issues were planned and executed,
focusing on preventive approaches directed at children,
parents / guardians and education professionals.
Questionnaires were used as a tool to evaluate the
effectiveness of health education actions. It was concluded
that the actions were beneficial, but the changes in
children's habits involve cultural, social and economic
factors, being the family and school responsible for teaching health education.
