The University Extension Program Media in Education, from the Federal Univer-sity of Campina Grande - PB and the project Connect Library, from the city of Belém - PB, got together to stimulate the reading habit and the access to information between the youth of Belém through the transformation of their relation with the City Library. The place hosted educommunicative workshops that intended to enable teachers and students from public and private schools to interact and improve: a) the knowledge about media; b) the competences of locating information, reading and communication through social media and c) apprecia-tion of their city. The activity was quite a challenge, because some participants did not have easy access to technology. Youth protagonism and communication of conscious, educative and social contents took place in the workshops. The participants felt real citizens, realizing they belong to the community and acting towards the consolidation of democracy and citi-zenship.
