A influência marajoara no Art Déco brasileiro
Abstract
Maior ilha flúvio-costeira do mundo, Marajó, na Amazônia brasileira, teve diversas fases de desenvolvimento, antes da chegada dos colonizadores portugueses. Considerada a mais importante, e que se estenderia de 400 a 1350, a fase Marajoara deixou um rastro de inúmeros artefatos, finamente decorados: urnas funerárias, bancos, esculturas, vasos, tangas e adereços, em pedra, terracota, cerâmica e argila. No inicio do século XX, as novas invenções – automóvel, avião, hidroavião – aliadas ao espírito aventureiro de muitos cientistas, historiadores, jornalistas, comerciantes, e até saqueadores, transformam Marajó num destino bastante procurado. Os objetos pré-cabralinos passam a aguçar a cobiça de museus, colecionadores e marchands do mundo inteiro. A arte brasileira entra em sintonia com este momento, e forma-se um grupo de criadores explorando esse filão. Da literatura à música, da arquitetura às artes aplicadas: surgem os Nativistas. Na decoração das casas acontece uma verdadeira febre de objetos, móveis, luminárias, tapetes, enfim, tudo em que se possa imprimir labirintos, zigue-zagues, gregas e tramas geométricas derivadas dos desenhos marajoaras.
