Following tissue injury, the body initiates a rapid and complex repair process, restoring the architecture and function of the tissues. Tissue proliferation becomes intense and massive as collagen cells are deposited haphazardly at the site. Post-operative chronic pain (POCP) may occur, affecting respiratory physiology, causing emotional distress in the patient, and impacting thoracic expansion during inspiration and expiration. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of osteopathic techniques (functional and structural) in the treatment of chronic post-operative pain resulting from thoracotomy, ventilatory parameters, the effect of manual osteopathic treatment, and the mobility of the resulting scars. This is a randomized, controlled, single and double-blind clinical trial. Twenty-one individuals were evaluated, 10 in the placebo group and 11 in the experimental group. One-way ANOVA with Tukey's post-hoc test was used for the analysis of demographic and anthropometric variables. The Kruskal-Wallis test with Dunn's post-hoc test was used for the VAS variable. One-way ANOVA with Tukey's post-hoc test was used for the ventilometry analysis. The results indicated that osteopathic techniques promoted improvement of the surgical scar and may decrease or even eliminate post-operative pain after thoracotomy.
