SELF-DECLARATION AND AFFIRMATIVE MEASURES FOR PROMOTING RACIAL EQUALITY IN BRAZIL

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the criterion of ethnic-racial self-declaration adopted by Brazilian legislation for the implementation of affirmative measures aimed at promoting racial equality. From the work of Stuart Hall (2006), we seek to understand the meaning of identity, belonging and self-determination as categories of useful analysis for understanding the ethnic-racial self-declaration in Brazil. It starts from the premise that the criterion of self-declaration is resemted as an instrument to strengthen identity, belonging and the recognition as subjects of law historically groups priced out of construction process of important spheres of  public spaces and, therefore, exert influence on dimensions that impact the social mobility in the country.

Possui Doutorado em Ciências Sociais: Relações Internacionais pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo - PUC-SP (2008). Mestrado em Filosofia Política pela Universidade Federal de Goiás (2001). Graduação em Direito pela Universidade Católica de Goiás (1996). Tem experiência na área de Ciência Política, Relações Internacionais e Direito Público, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Direitos Humanos, Direito Internacional e Regimes Internacionais. Professor e Pesquisador do Mestrado em Direitos Humanos da Universidade Tiradentes - UNIT/SE
