Abstract

The debate about diversity is multifaceted. Adjectives, such as ‘cultural’ diversity or its synonyms are evidence of this. Consequently, the starting point of this study is the concept of diversity and its theoretical, epistemological and social foundations. Based on this discussion, the categories which make explicit the concept underpinning the conception of diversity in this approach are added. These categories are democratic management and social movements. The study seeks to highlight the involvement of such categories with the phenomenon of diversity as well as with the principle of emancipation which underlies the approach. Finally, it seeks to relate these assumptions to the question of educational policies, by postulating an ongoing educational praxis.
