Abstract

This article investigates the impact of the 1930 revolutionary movement on the daily life of the House of Detention in Recife. As soon as the coup d'état was perpetrated in the capital of Pernambuco, through different modes, a growing manifestation of adhesion to the government of federal intervener Carlos de Lima Cavalcanti by ordinary prisoners emerged. When investigating the contiguity between the political conjuncture and the daily prison, we maintain that the daily dynamics of accommodation and conflict were connected to political events located beyond the walls of the institution. Through a process of appropriation, the daily life of the prison is presented by those from the perspective of the political vocabulary used by the alliances before the Revolution in order to obtain concrete improvements for the prisoners.
