Abstract

This text aims to analyze the international trip of Heraclídes César de Souza Araújo in order to improve professionally. The doctor became a fellow at the Rockefeller Foundation and studied at Johns Hopkins University, which proposed na educational model aimed at public health. The cprrespondence exchanged between the offices of the philanthropic agency from New York and Brazil, the Souza Araújo scholarship card, the jornal The Brazil-Médico and an interview given by Olympio da Fonseca Filho to the Centro de Pesquisa e Documentação de História Contemporânea da Fundação Getúlio Vargas. Although the selection process was conflicting, the experience of foreign studies and his visibility, contribute to understanding part of Souza Araujo’s performance especially in the field of leprology.
