Abstract

This paper presents the results of a scientific initiation work in History, developed in High School. The goal was to reflect upon the teaching of history in Brazil nowadays - its main trends, limits, disputes and challenges. It consisted on surveying and organizing quantitative and qualitative data inside the Goiânia campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Goiás, preceded by the survey and analysis of journalistic material and legislation concerning the teaching of history, in particular, and the humanities in general. This research also sought to reflect on the perception that teachers and students of this institution have about the importance and meanings attributed to History teaching in order to develop citizenship through education. To do so it was necessary to compare and analyze their perception relating them to the political environment identified through the mainstream media information and manifested in amendments to the educational laws.

Mariana Affonso Penna, Instituto Federal de Goiás - IFG

Doutora em História pela Universidade Federal Fluminense (2016), com período sanduíche em École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (2014). Atualmente é professora da Licenciatura em História, do Ensino Técnico Integrado ao Ensino Médio e supervisora do Laboratório de Ensino de História (LEHIS) no Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Goiás (IFG).
