Abstract

In Brazil, studies concerning family and household, including considerations about gender, increased very much in last decades, but the works are concentrated in some regions. So, I want to study a new region, the province of Goiás, focusing two parishes, Bonfim and Corumbá. For these places, the lists of households made about 1850 include names, ages, color, marital status and social condition (free people or slaves) for all population. In this work I seek to analyze the total population and the households, searching the way in which the location of households (urban or rural ones) and the sex of the household head was important in the determination of its characteristics.
