Abstract

This article intends to describe some of the most important sources produced in the merovingian Gaul, and to reflect on its contribution to the study of the Royalty among the franks as well. The emphasis will be given to the written teslemony instead of the archaeological testemony. Among the texts wich will be analised in this work, there is the Decem Libri Historiarum of Gregory of Tours, the Chronicles attributed to Fredegário and its continuations, the Liber Historiae Francorum, the Capitularia Merowingica, the Epistolae Austrasicae and the Formulae Marculf.
