Abstract

This article aims at briefly discussing the dilemmas and perspectives for physical education in the face of the educational inclusion paradigm for special needs students. To achieve this, it has been necessary to approach the following issues: a) the guiding principles for special education; b) facts and schools of thought that have been guiding the development of inclusive education in Brazil; c) Brazilian educational policies towards special/inclusive education against the backdrop of integration and inclusion and what Brazilian statistical data have shown on the inclusion of these students in the public and private school sectors; and d) the dilemmas and perspectives of physical education in the face of the educational inclusion of special needs students. This study has led us to conclude that, in order for physical education to be inclusive, we will need to get involved in social-political-pedagogical practices that is capable of materializing a new type of school physical education and creating new paths to be followed.
