SELF-DETERMINATION THEORY: APPLICATIONS IN THE CONTEXT OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE PRACTICES FOR ADOLESCENTS

Based on the Self-determination theory – SDT, this study aimed to verify the relationship between motivational regulation and physical exercise practices of students adolescent. Participants were 87 high school students from both genders. The Behavior Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire – 2 and the Physical Activity Evaluation for Adolescents Questionnaire were used as instruments. The exercise was related negatively with a motivation and external regulation, and positively with identified regulation and intrinsic motivation. In conclusion, adolescents that were more self-determined had more physical exercise practice than adolescents with low self-determination.
