Abstract

This article seeks to structure in an unprecedented way the beginnings of the relationship between table tennis and the Japanese colony in São Paulo city. A qualitative and exploratory approach is adopted as a method, with documentary research procedures in several newspapers of the time, filtered from keywords in the Digital Hemeroteca. With this, it is expected to bring to light the names of players, clubs and pioneering leaders in Japanese-Brazilian table tennis, information that will contribute not only to investigations related to the Japanese colony, but also to the incipient historical studies of the practice of racquets.
