This essay aimed to describe and characterize the theoretical basis of body concepts in Physical Education (PE) and its relations with human health. The material explored indicated that the concepts are appropriated from classical works, branching out and representing divergent theoretical approaches that influence knowledge, know-how, and practices in Physical Education. It was evidenced fundamental aspects that demonstrate the theoretical conceptual advance in the field that historically starts to consider concepts based on the interconnection between the natural and the social in detriment of the biomedical and hegemonic exclusivity. The concept of body practices has been fundamental to build humanized and critical interventions with subjects and communities when considering human health care.
