Abstract

The purpose of the study was to understand the meanings of body and health for non-professional practitioners of dance. For that, an ethnographic study was carried out, which was developed with 14 students of a dance school in the city of São Paulo. Data collection consisted of semi-structured interviews and participant observation. Data analysis was performed by non-a priori categories. We found body meanings from integrated and fragmented perspectives and health meanings in a broad and restricted sense We concluded that people involved in dance experience are open and experiencing ways of living well, knowing themselves and learning for being happy, satisfied and having a good life.
