New Technologies and New Ways of Organizing the Work of the Teacher at Sports Centers

Based on a case study undertaken in a large gym in the city of Goiânia, Brazil, I present this paper that aims at understanding how technological changes in gyms have infl uenced the organization of work in such spaces. This research was developed in the first quarter of 2004. Semi-structured interviews with teachers from the investigated gym were done for data collection. The chosen gym, herein renamed as Academia X, was the one that had the most advanced technology available for this business sector in the city of Goiânia. The achieved results may point to future trends for the other gyms. This is only possible because lesser developed gyms tend to match their more developed counterparts.
