Abstract

The present text discusses the teaching of sports as an issue of multidisciplinary interest. It starts from the understanding of sports practice as a social and historical construction of modern man which has been discussed by physical education teachers in their many fields of work. This text points to a certain "inconsistency" found in the analises of sports as a phenomenon which is frequent in physical education literature, and it points to the possibility of understanding the "discourse" which is repetitive among physical education teachers on the teaching of sports, from the starting point of basic theoretical suppositions taken from Sociology. It also indicates the need to conduct further studies from such an epistemological viewpoint which has had little developed in Brazil. KEY WORDS: pedagogical practice – sports – sociology.
