Abstract

This article intends to present a historical recovery "scoop", delimiting it from the origin of the terms "news"and "news report" and highlighting its role in the competitive race between news organizations. The assumption is that the scoop comes from the notion of news report during the invention of modern journalism, throughout the nineteenth century. It is inferred that even the original idea scoop remains vital in today"s newsrooms, although it has been proclaimed their extinction in the internet age. In this sense, we present a concept of "scoop" from current characteristics of contemporary journalism. It means that, from de "common place" then goes on to understand the "scoop" as a category of journalism. The reflection results from doctoral research that identifies the logical distribution of national news agencies - Estado, O Globoand Folhapress - those integrate the major Brazilian media conglomerates.
