Abstract

This paper is intended to present some of the results emerging from ongoing research on the representation of violence in the newspapers (print and online) in the state of Veracruz, in the period 2005 to 2011, covering the period of government Fidel Herrera Beltran and the beginning of the period of Javier Duarte de Ochoa. This paper will outline a first analysis of the external and internal factors that have influenced the representations of violence in Veracruz newspapers and how they have changed the practice of journalists to threats of organized crime on the one hand and on the other, of a government that seeks to silence them at all costs.
