Abstract

The aim of this article is to highlight the role of school Cartography in the development of geographical thinking. To this end, it emphasizes the role of Cartography as a language of geography and as a way of representing geographical space. A research project between Brazil and Chile is analyzed, which allowed for closer collaboration within the framework of the process of incorporating Cartography into Geography teaching practices and was important for the development of didactic and pedagogical initiatives aimed at generating cartographic teaching materials suitable for the development of geographical thinking.  The results show that cartographic language is necessary for teaching geography and for developing geographical thinking in geography teacher training. It is hoped that this study will help to advance the teaching of geography and school Cartography by developing theoretical and methodological proposals that value the articulation of cartographic language in the process of training geography teachers.
