The Mamulengo puppet theatre onstage in the contemporary context
Abstract
The presence of the Mamulengo puppet theatre in the cultural circuit of the Brazilian Southeast region, through migrant puppeteers from the Pernambuco State, makes that this puppet theater genre no longer obeys only the traditional values of its origin, in Zona da Mata. By analyzing the work of three companies (Teatro de Mamulengo de Valdeck de Garanhuns, Mamulengo da Folia and Grupo Imaginário), this article aims to show the changes in the genre linked to the education and performance of the players, its dramaturgy and codes of representation.
