In case of two Authors, use the symbol “&” e.g. Robinson & Smith (1982). Authors of accepted manuscripts can only be cited if referenced that the manuscript is in the process of publication e.g. Esteves (in-press). For citing unpublished Authors, reference it has not been published e.g. Esteves (unpublished).

Referencing more than one Author at the same sentence requires “;” (semicolon) between the citations e.g. (Almeida, 1997; Cornell, 1985; Janzen, 1980).

- The Authors of plant and animal taxa must be referenced only at the first time in the text body (followed by the year of publication and family). The Authors of plant and animal taxa shall be abbreviated according to Authors of Plant Names (Brummit & Powell, 1992).

- The name of genera must be cited unabbreviated at the first citation in a new paragraph.

- The cited Herbariums shall be abbreviated according the Index Herbarium (Regnum Veg. vol. 120. 1990; http://www.nybg.org./bsci/ih/ ). Citing this publication is not necessary.

- Footnotes are NOT allowed

- When using units of measurement, it must be used only in abbreviation and without followed by a dot e.g. 15 cm; 2.4 km.

- The terminology used in Biochemistry must follow the instructions from the Biochemical Journal or Journal of Biological Chemistry or the IUPAC instructions for biochemical nomenclature.

- Whenever using anacronyms and abbreviations, the first time cited it must be followed by it’s full length meaning e.g. Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG).

Taxonomy Treaties, Fauna and Flora

- When not specified, it’s presumed that the Author has inspected all the types mentioned in the paper. In case that there are types not inspected by the paper’s Author, the citation must be followed by “n.v.” e.g. BRASIL. Goiás: Mun. Mineiros, Fda. Boa Vista, 23.IV.1997 (fl), P. Fernandez 1453 (holotype, UB; isotype, BR, F-n.v., K-n.v., NY).

- In case the manuscript designates a Lectopype or a Neotype, it must be made clear following the symbol of the institution where it’s held e.g. (Lectotype, R, here designated). In case the Lectotype or Neotype has been previously designated, it must follow the Author and year of publications of the previous designation e.g. (Lectotype, R, designated by Delprete, 1999). It must be included in the “References” section.
