A socioenvironmental overview of recycling cooperatives in the municipality of Pelotas-RS from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

This article analyzes the role of recycling cooperatives in Pelotas-RS in waste management, sustainability, and the circular economy. To this end, visits were made to six cooperatives, and in two of them, a questionnaire was applied, designed to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the UN. The cooperatives COORECICLO and COOPEL stand out for their adherence to the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), training and vaccination of members. Despite progress in gender equality, challenges such as poor infrastructure and safety persist. The assessment of the work environment as "reasonable" or "dangerous" indicates a need for investment. Expanding the number of members, offering training, and implementing policies for women's empowerment are essential. The study emphasizes the importance of financial support, institutional partnerships, and public policies, aligning with SDGs 3, 8, 10, and 12 to strengthen waste management and social inclusion.
