Humanist Geography and Posthuman Condition

Humanist geography was born in the 20th century in a context of contestation of quantativist geographic postulates and a mixture of cultural and socio-economic effervescence. Its main theoretical premise is a new conception of space, based on various philosophical currents. This conception has provided a varied research program, centered on the human experience on earth and on the meanings of understanding people's relationship with geographical places and environments. In a way, humanist geography has been "tested" by various criticisms and continues to contribute to the geographical debate. Based on this understanding, the article aims to promote a dialog between humanist geography and the posthuman condition, an emerging field of research that discusses new formulations of the human based on the acceleration of capitalism, of technology and of the devastation of nature. As such, this work is made up of a bibliographical review and of a theoretical reflection on the links between the post-human condition and humanist geography. It concludes that humanist geography, far from being an outdated approach, can still help with the geographical issues of the present time, as well as the ecological crisis, by proposing interdisciplinary studies in search of a geopoetic dwelling and a rethinking the values founded on European Enlightenment humanism.
