CHALLENGES IN SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT WITH THE INCLUSION OF WASTE PICKERS

Abstract

The article presents an exploratory and descriptive research aimed at analyzing information from government platforms on solid waste management in the southwest sub-region of the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The research identified contradictory values ​​between the coverage rate of door-to-door selective collection services and the recovery rates of recyclables in relation to household and public waste. The lack of registration of cooperatives and associations of waste pickers on government platforms, as well as the lack of information on contracts, with no need for bidding, for the remuneration of services provided by these workers constitute a scenario of environmental injustice. After ten years of promulgation of the National Solid Waste Policy, still remain in the implementation of the selective collection service with the inclusion of collectors.
